Food is more than sustenance; it is more than a staple we need to help us conquer the challenges of the day. Food is an experience, a time that we set aside each day to sit, taste, talk and enjoy.

‘Tapas’, a Spanish dining where you eat a number of appetizers or snacks. Spaniards love to dine on these multiple small dishes consisting of anything from olives and cheese to meatballs and chorizo.‘Tapas’ has something for everyone and you also get to try lots of different flavours and ingredients.

I feel that there is a lot to be said about this way of eating. Cultures from all around the world eat in a similar fashion, small dishes, juggling hands full of flavours and textures, hands reaching, mouths chewing… “Pass the bread” and “try this”, “try that”, spreading down the table.

Acland Village is proud to pay host to some of the city’s finest tapas bars in Melbourne.

You will not be disappointed!

CHULO Bar De Tapas – 154 Acland Street

Lets start with the newest edition to Acland Street, serving authentic and appealing Spanish tapas, coupled with a great wine list. I look for a place that I can go, where I can sit back, relax and enjoy some real, authentic food. Chulo has a set of fresh dishes delicious and full of flavour.

Chef Pablo Diaz has created a menu that is exciting and true to Spanish tapas. Diaz has spent years training abroad, now he brings his knowledge and expertise all the way from his hometown in Madrid right here to the heart of St Kilda.

The team here have noticed a huge amount of interest in Chulo before the doors even opened. Despite opening right at the beginning of the upgrade they say they couldn’t be happier with the reception.

“The locals are excited to have somewhere new to drink and dine, and nearby traders have been very positive with their feedback too.”

You’ve got to come and try some authentic Spanish Tapas right in the heart of St Kilda.

I agree with the team at Chulo when they say.

“Any new venture which adds to the variety and character of Acland Street can only be a positive thing!”
